Your Landlord & Lady
Hi, we’re Andy & Heather Kempton, We took over The Emperor on September 17th 2007.
We’ve been married for nearly 10 years, we met 13 years ago in Chippenham, Wiltshire when Andy used to manage a night club & Heather worked for Whitbread. Took us a year to get together! Andy then got a job with Whitbread too. We were working together at a pub called the Brassmills in Keynsham, Bristol, when we were asked to go & look after pubs that were run down or between managers! We looked after some great places all over the South West & then we were offered a pub called the Village Inn in Beoley, Redditch. Again a wonderful place for a few reasons....The customers, the pub itself was 400 years old, we got married there & our first son was born there! We then did a short stint in Southend on Sea & then we moved to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire & took over The Charter. This is where our second son was born. 18 months later we decided to give the pubs a break. We bought a house in Ipswich & started to settle down properly! Heather got a 9-5 job at BT Adastral Park & Andy became Head Chef at Pals in town. Then 2 little surprises arrived, less than a year apart! Our youngest son first then 11 months & 3 weeks later our daughter arrived. We started talking about pubs again, we started looking, definitely some big no no’s out there & then the Emperor came up & I think it was love at first sight, especially the garden. Two months later we were in! And very happy we are too! We'd also like to give Selina a quick mention, she is Heather's first daughter from her first marriage. So now you know about us, come in & give us a try!!!
Real Ale Pub
We pride ourselves in providing 3 guest ales at all times. We've had Black Sheep, Roaring Meg, Directors, Abbots Ale, Hobgoblin & Rosey Nosey to name but a few.
All ales are chosen upon request of regulars, current availability ,time of season and sticking a pin in the finest cask selection poster!
All ales have their own Characteristics and Personallities which we are finding quite pleasurable in discovering.
Youngs Ale is always available as 'The house Ale'
The Pub
A typical 3 tier public/locals bar.
The Nook, a quaint little area for those who like to chat, debate, or just get away from the TV's and Music
Main bar, you can oversee the games area, your within ear shot of the background music, sit on a large leather sofa in front of a real log fire & watch plasma screen (showing anything from 'Dave' to Live Sports) or meet most the locals.
Games area, Mainly pool based. Dart board available. In house music piped to this area.. If you ask nicely, landord will get his battleships game out, or the kids connect4..
Back Room, a private room, function room, dinning room name it what you like. It's a good sized area which can be hired out for small functions or meetings. We use it for our Tuesday Night Club, Broomhill Pool committee hold their monthly meetings in there. It has lighting & power & we are hoping to redecorate it in the coming months.
Outdoor Smoking Area, we have a covered area with a couple of heat lamps out the back of the pub & following on from that is our lovely garden.
